For the love of driving

Ruta del Sol ’25, a fantastic supercar tour like no other, that saw 14 cars enjoying the fantastic roads which Spain and Portugal offers in April 2025.

Picture this: a convoy of high-performance cars roaring through the stunning landscapes of Spain and Portugal, with the sun shining down and the wind in your hair. It’s a dream come true for any car enthusiast and we were lucky enough to experience it, all with a fantastic group of petrol heads.

Our lineup of cars was nothing short of spectacular. We had a Ferrari 296, not one but two Porsche Spyder RS’s, a couple of GT3’s, including the GT3 Touring lead car, a new GT3RS, and two iconic cars in the shape of the Ferrari 458 Speciale and the McLaren 675LT Spider! We even had an authentic GT tourer in the Bentley Continental GT, along with a few others. Each car brought its own unique character to the tour, and together they formed a formidable fleet that turned heads wherever we went.

The journey itself was a thrill from start to finish. We started off after a mini cruise from Plymouth to Santander, onboard Brittany Ferries flagship boat Pont Aven, by taking on the majestic Picos de Europa! With its rugged beauty and winding roads, it certainly tested the limits of both car and driver as we made our way across to the first overnight stay on land in Leon.

From there, we made our way towards Portugal’s Serra da Estrela, a mountain range that rivals anything Europe has to offer in terms of driving excitement. The roads on route were challenging, the scenery breathtaking and the experience unforgettable.

One of the highlights of any tour we run in Portugal is always our stay at the Vidago Palace, a luxurious hotel that provided the perfect blend of comfort and elegance for our third night of the tour. Let’s not forget about the Porsche test route that adds to the highlight of staying at this hotel, which we had the privilege of driving in both directions in 2025 – A true hidden gem that offers a driving experience that lives long in the memories of anyone that has completed it!

From the summit of the test route, we plunged south, carving along the N222 beside the Douro River – possibly the only road where you drive at six-tenths, so you can enjoy the glances sideways at the area’s famous vineyards, without ending up in the drink!

Night four and five was spent at a boutique hotel in the heart of the Estrela, where guests enjoyed Michelin-starred food and a wine list longer than the Bentley. Perched on the inside of a mountainside hairpin and nestled amongst the house-sized boulders, which make the scenery of the Estrela so spectacular, was the perfect location for a sunrise drive that will live long in the memory of those that set their alarm clocks and ventured to the summit of the Torre!

Leaving the Estrela, the journey south through Portugal continued on some amazing forestry roads, right up to the point we fell foul of the electricity outage across Portugal and Spain. This led to a very different approach to the driving and the planned route, opting for once to take the short route to the hotel! The situation led to coasting competitions down the hills for those with smaller fuel tanks, but thankfully everyone made it to the service station just as the power came back on!

The following day, and perhaps the most memorable part of the tour for many, was the private track session we included at Circuito Do Sol! A track that allowed everyone to push their cars closer to 10/10ths in a safe and controlled environment without anyone in uniform disapproving! A great new circuit facility that we will certainly return to on future tours through southern Portugal.

As we made our way back to the coast, crossing the Spanish border and passing through Seville on our way to the Costa Del Sol, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment. We had conquered some of the most challenging roads in Europe, made some great new friends and created memories that will last long after the cars had cooled and loaded onto the trucks to ship back to the UK, at our final hotel near Marbella.

Ruta del Sol ’25 was more than just a tour – it was an experience. A chance for owners to really get to know their cars, explore new landscapes, and share a joint passion for driving with like-minded individuals. It was a journey that reminded everyone why we love cars in the first place, and we can’t wait to do it all over again in September.

So here’s to the next adventure, the next thrill and the next unforgettable experience on the road!
